Spring is coming. Time for the garden

Self-catering

We already talked about this in the previous blog post. We’ve had more rain in Israel than we’ve had for 50 years. That’s why we’ve spent a lot of time indoors this year and the garden has been dormant. Now the clouds are clearing and hopefully the big masses of rain have passed. Both Israelis and we are slowly waking up, daring to go outside and enjoy the greening nature with its beautiful spring flowers that cover entire mountain ranges.

Time for us to tackle the garden too. In addition to the many ornamental plants, our vegetable patches, fruit trees and herb beds also need attention. We particularly enjoy the many herbs. Three different types of basil and mint, coriander, rosemary, thyme and sage, to name but a few.

Not just for us

We like spending time in the garden because it offers us variety and, unlike many Israelis, we have some space. It’s great to just go to the raised bed and get fresh herbs for sauces and dishes.

This freshness is also well received by our guests.

We have reported several times that we keep chickens that are fed lots of greens and herbs in addition to high-quality grain feed. The eggs simply taste great.
Another highlight has been available in our house since last December: our own bread.
Our pride and joy is our sourdough bread, which is simply delicious.
