It\u2019s almost three years into the war, where we are experiencing an intense crisis and living in a crisis and at war. I love balance, harmony, and I just like it when things run smoothly or, as you would say, \u201csmoothly\u201d. <\/h3>

We all have a side that we like to be drawn to. It suits us. We don\u2019t need much practice, we automatically gravitate towards it. We nurture it, unconsciously. It\u2019s not difficult for us, and that\u2019s not negative, it\u2019s positive. <\/p>

In contrast, such crises, rocky paths, disharmony and crises are not so easy for us, as in my case. We want to avoid the difficult, quite naturally. I love watching comedies that make me laugh heartily. I\u2019d much rather write a story with humor than keep reporting on war, terror and sad news, even if it\u2019s my job. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

God is not an upgrade<\/h3>

One of my most important realizations in my faith was that God is not just a support for life\u2019s adversities. He is also not an upgrade for life, not a life plus God upgrade.<\/strong> No, he is the all-changing greatness<\/strong> that wants to permeate all of life, the all-changing power<\/strong>. No life plus, no support in adversity, no embellishment, but the all-changing power<\/strong>. <\/p>

In depth, I realized what it is all about: What is God\u2019s will for our lives? That we become more like him, a change into the character of his Son. When I understood that back then, my whole way of thinking changed. <\/p>

The inconvenient truth about training fields<\/h3>

When confronted with unpleasant things, I sometimes thought that God didn\u2019t mean well. And then I understood: yes, he means well, because what challenges me, what is perhaps even difficult, is an important path with God. Because the good sides, well, I can deal with them. The others are training grounds, and good ones at that. <\/p>

Because this gives rise to moments in which we rise above ourselves, in which we feel happiness and gratitude. When a battle has been fought, when we understand: Wow, we did something completely different than usual. Or even achieved something great that we didn\u2019t think we could. Or sometimes the calm and level-headed realization: That was different. That was good. <\/p>

What two and a half years of war can do to you<\/h3>

And so I remember the times during those difficult two and a half years when I remained steadfast, even though I felt otherwise. When I lived in hope, even though the situation in the war looked anything but good. But also times when I made decisions that were unpleasant but necessary. <\/p>

I grew in these moments. It\u2019s these things that make me grow. <\/p><\/blockquote>

I am not a lone fighter. It makes sense to have a mentor, like I have, and friends, and of course your own partner. But we have to understand: Ultimately, we decide and bear the consequences. <\/p>

My willingness to allow God to shape me, to understand that what he does with me, what he confronts me with, will lead to good, even if it sometimes doesn\u2019t feel like it at all. In retrospect, when I seriously reflect, when I seriously deal with myself and what I have experienced, I experience what has grown in me. <\/p>

Puzzle pieces become a picture<\/h3>

A picture emerges from puzzle pieces. The series of experiences, realizations, the deep imprint, but also exchanges, important sermons, words from friends and companions, but also life in the relationship with my wife and our children. This has resulted in points on which much of my life is based. They have become an important foundation of my personality in difficult crises. Not only routines, but also character traits are an asset. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Some points for a strong life<\/h3>

Bearing responsibility \u2013 not talking, carrying<\/strong><\/p>

There is a difference between those who talk about responsibility and those who bear it. Responsibility is not a feeling. It is a decision that you make every day. For the family, for what is entrusted to you. Even when you\u2019re tired. Even when no one is applauding. <\/p>

Spiritually rooted \u2013 not perfect, but aligned<\/strong><\/p>

I am not a flawless believer. Being spiritually rooted does not mean having pious answers to all questions. It means praying, seeking, wrestling. And admitting that I need guidance that is bigger than me. God is my father. He gives me strength when I reach my own limits, and I regularly do. <\/p>

Integrity \u2013 taking your word seriously<\/strong><\/p>

A yes that really remains a yes. A promise that you keep, even if you would rather spend the evening differently. Integrity doesn\u2019t show itself in big moments. It shows itself in small things, every day. And those who live it have less to remember. <\/p>

Forgiving \u2013 not because it\u2019s easy<\/strong><\/p>

Bitterness doesn\u2019t break the other person. It destroys me. It eats its way in, quietly and consistently. Forgiveness is not a free pass for the other person. It is freedom for myself. And I live from forgiveness myself, I forget that too easily. <\/p>

Humility \u2013 not a sign of weakness<\/strong><\/p>

I have experienced men who became louder and louder the more insecure they were. And I have experienced men who talked little and held a lot. Who didn\u2019t need to have the last word. Humility is not caving in. It is clarity about who you are and who you are not. <\/p>

Serve \u2013 even if it costs you something<\/strong><\/p>

There are moments when helping is easy. And then there are other moments when I myself am exhausted, when I have little. This is exactly where it is decided whether serving is an attitude or just a nice phrase. <\/p>

Stand firm \u2013 step by step<\/strong><\/p>

Resilience is not only evident in extreme situations. It shows itself in the long, gray phases. When no rockets are flying, but there is no enthusiasm either. When your marriage is difficult, your work is wearing you down, your faith feels dry. Don\u2019t drop out inwardly. Stay. Believe. Keep going. Step by step. <\/p>

These are not perfect points. I don\u2019t always live them. They are the result of an exciting journey and a mission at the same time.<\/strong><\/p>

What can make us different?<\/strong> Not the big words. Not the moments that look good.
