Israel. A coffee nation

Good coffee is part of a good morning! Coffee lovers will definitely agree. I, Benjamin, enjoy a hot cup of fragrant coffee with all my senses. In Germany, I preferred to drink coffee from pods or filter coffee. Today, I can no longer imagine that I liked this coffee. Everyone knows the coffee that has been on the hotplate for too long and then tastes bitter. Incidentally, this also leads to an acidic stomach.
When I came to Israel, Alex awakened a completely different taste for coffee in me. I’ve moved away from classic filter coffee. We have Turkish coffee and French press coffee.
My hiking equipment now also includes a small gas stove. I copied that from the Israelis. There’s always a moment to enjoy a good coffee. Let’s be honest, a coffee tastes best outside with a view over a valley, a desert or the sea, doesn’t it?
The search for the right coffee
We bought a coffee grinder a long time ago, but the previous sources for coffee beans were not convincing. There is also often coffee with cardamom. Here they simply call it coffee with “L”. Neither Alex nor I like it. Unfortunately, I am often offered it, mainly by Arab traders. I only drink it out of politeness.
A source opened up

Around two years ago, we came across a coffee shop in the city of Acre. It’s three quarters of an hour away from us, but thanks to our guests, I regularly visit this beautiful city by the sea.

When I’m there, I buy one or two kilograms of coffee. To be honest, the oriental flair of the market also influences my purchases. I prefer to buy dark roasts, while our guests often prefer the milder blends.
And a quick word of advice: it‘s worth taking good coffee, spices and oil from Israel with you.
When I moved to Israel, I was surprised at how many good cafés there are. I didn’t expect Israel to be a coffee nation. Anyone traveling to Israel should take the time for a good coffee and extremely delicious pastries. Or simply drop by for a coffee with us.
